Making a Walking Stick Handle: Padauk Thumbstick with Brass Ferrule
One of the most creative things about making walking sticks is coming up with different ways to make a walking stick handle out of wood that is truly unique. This photo shows one I am working on at the moment.
I have turned two pieces of Padauk to make a thumbstick handle for a new designer walking stick. The padauk shows the dark heartwood and the light sapwood, and I have fixed the two turned pieces opposing each other to emphasise the colour difference.
The handle has been reinforced with stainless steel rod, making it a very strong and secure walking stick handle. I have fitted a brass ferrule ready for fixing to a new stick shaft.
